Henry “HEN GEE” Garcia, has been a consistent driving force in the Hip Hop Movement for more than two decades. Born to Honduran parents, HEN GEE and his brother DJ Evil E, grew up on the hardcore streets of Brooklyn, New York. HEN GEE realized early in life that his passion was Hip Hop. He rapidly carved out a powerful reputation for himself on the streets. HEN then relocated to the West Coast where a brand new cultural movement was taking root.
After arriving, HEN met with Greg Mack – Program Director for L.A. original Hip-Hop station K-Day – and introduced Greg to the Latino & Hip Hop street sounds that he developed from his Central Latin African Honduran roots mixed with his East Coast vibe. It was this newly emerging West Coast work that first put HEN GEE on the map. Almost immediately HEN’s presence was felt on a larger scale.
Soon after, HEN GEE and brother Evil E joined forces with renegade rapper / actor ICE-T. They became a very visual force at the forefront of the West Coast Movement, in the Breakdance movies of the early 80’s and the seminal Radio club, which is considered the birthplace of West Coast Hip-Hop. HEN GEE had an international fan base by the mid-1980s and was signed to Electrobeat with his brother DJ Evil E, Ice-T, and Kid Frost. His early records are sought after by collectors and Hip-Hop historians, a reflection of their groundbreaking value as street classics. The Rhyme Syndicate Organization which was lead by Ice-T and was the root of west coast gangster rap, was formed out of Hen Gee’s house.
The Syndicate consisted of Ice Cube’s partner W.C., Maverick Records Guy Oseary, Coolio, Everlast, & Limp Bizkit’s D.J. Lethal. On several world tours ICE T., Evil E, & teenage HEN GEE, internationally put West Coast rap on the global Hip-Hop map. This led to a major record deal with Warner Brothers Records for the Rhyme Syndicate imprint, where HEN played a key role on both the business front, performing A&R duties as well as road managing and performing. Hen Gee along with Maverick Records Guy Oseary as management, inked their first deal at Pendulum/Electra Records. HEN and his brother Evil E released the critically acclaimed album ‘Brothers’, a record which set the template for the Spanglish Hip-Hop explosion, paving the way for artists such as Cypress Hill, Mellow Man Ace and HEN’s previous labelmate Kid Frost.
While working with and playing a very important role in Ice-T’s career, HEN’s diversity in business and his creative instincts as an artist, led him to work with Trauma Records, with artists like No Doubt, Bush and Shaquille O’neil as label mates. In conjunction with ICE T, HEN GEE co-executive produced “One Nation”, a nationally syndicated hip-hop radio program on L.A.’s 105.9 (Power 106). He is also an Associate Executive Producer on seven of ICE T’s award winning albums.
HEN GEE has produced tracks with the late great 2 Pac, which is a further reflection of his status within the industry. While today rappers wear t-shirts in homage to 2 Pac, HEN GEE wore the t-shirt and had the respect when West Coast was at its most progressive, innovative and commercially successful stage. Playing to a broad audience, HEN GEE has also performed on numerous stages along with legends like 2 Live Crew, Tone Loc, Hammer, Kid Frost, Whodini, Snoop Dogg, Queen Latifah, Run D.M.C., Public Enemy, Will Smith, EPMD, KRS 1, Salt & Pepa, Eric B. & Rakim, NWA., 2 Pac, Roger & Zapp, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Gangstarr, X-Zibit, Busta Rhymes & D.J.
